CLIMATE TRANSITION IN EUROPE: THE LEGAL ISSUES
being held on Earth Day, Thursday 22 April 2021 via Zoom at 17:30 to 19:00 BST.
The UK is hosting COP 26 in Glasgow in November 2021. The race to net zero is now on and time is fast running out. Concerns are increasingly raised about whether the law is doing enough to achieve carbon neutrality, especially with the potential for divergence after Brexit. Some would also question whether there is a need to recognise rights of nature. On 22 April 2021 (Earth Day), the European Circuit of the Bar will host a panel discussion about climate litigation in Europe, considering the implications of Brexit, and, critically, what can and should be done now to transition to net neutrality.
The event is chaired by The Honourable Ms Justice Niamh Hyland, with speakers:
Advocate General Michal Bobek: speaking on Climate Litigation in the EU
Marc Willers QC, Garden Court Chambers: speaking on Trends in Climate Litigation
Celina Colquhoun, 39 Essex Chambers: Speaking on Brexit’s Implications on Environmental Law
Paul Powlesland, Garden Court Chambers: Speaking on Rights of Nature
Followed by a Q&A.
